Head & Neck Cancer Treatment

Head & Neck Cancer are the most common cancers affecting the Indian population. This is due to the high prevalence of using tobacco products, smoking, and alcoholism. They can affect the nasal cavity, sinuses, nasopharynx (area behind the nose), oral cavity, tongue, tonsils, cheeks, throat, and voice box. Some of these areas are hidden and not easily visible to the naked eye during routine clinical examination. A person suspected of having cancers of the head and neck generally presents with an ulcer, bleeding from the organ, swelling in the neck, dysfunction of the affected organ such as nasal obstruction, ear pain, throat pain, difficulty swallowing, and change in voice. These individuals will need to be thoroughly examined with a panendoscopy and undergo appropriate tests. Most of these procedures can be done on an outpatient basis and diagnosed at an early stage to facilitate aggressive early treatment and ensure a good prognosis.
